Prof. Ivo Petrov graduated from the Sofia Medical University in 1992 and was board-certified for internal medicine in 1999, cardiology in 2003, and angiology in 2014. He specialized invasive cardiology and endovascular therapy at the Institut of Cardiology and Cardio-Vascular Surgery of Favaloro Foundation in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1999-2001). Since November 2012, he has been in the position of medical director and Head of the Cardiology and Angiology Department at Acibadem CityClinic, Cardiovascular Center, Sofia. He is one of the pioneers of modern endovascular therapy (founder and president of the Bulgarian Society of endovascular therapy and first president of the Balkan chapter of the International Society of Endovascular Specialists (ISEVS). He has particular interest and achievements in the treatment of complex cases of aortic aneurysms and dissections, transcatheter aortic valve implantation, interventional treatment of stroke, left main and bifurcation coronary lesions, total and subtotal carotid stenoses, renal denervation for resistant hypertension. His team was the first in the world to successfully treat a child with type B dissection by endovascular approach and among the first to treat totally endovascular a patient with acute type A dissection. Past president and board member of the Bulgarian Society of Cardiology. Current President of the Bulgarian Resuscitation Council. Recently elected as honorary member of Bulgarian Academy of sciences.
