The American Heart Association’s Predicting Risk of cardiovascular disease EVENTs (PREVENT^TM) calculator is a tool to for clinicians to estimate patients’ risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Risk estimates are intended to be guides and a starting point for a clinician-patient discussion for the primary prevention of CVD.

The PREVENT™ calculator incorporates elements of cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic health. It is not intended for secondary prevention use or for patients to access on their own. Rather, health care professionals should work closely with patients to discuss their risk and determine the best care.

The American Heart Association is providing open access to the PREVENT™ source code through a license agreement.

• The PREVENT™ source code is available through the license agreement at no cost to health care professionals including health care clinics and systems, academic/research institutions, researchers and companies who provide health risk assessment tools.
• If you are uncertain about whether you or your organization qualify to access the code, please contact [email protected].
• Potential users of the PREVENT™ source code (licensees) must agree to the online license agreement to gain access. The terms and conditions are designed to protect the integrity of PREVENT™, ensure appropriate usage among all parties, and establish clear parameters for all those involved. For this reason, the online license agreement is required and non-negotiable.
• Individuals and institutions who have used or accessed the source code prior to the development of the open-source license will be required to complete the online open-source code license agreement to maintain authorized access.
