Health Equity and Cardiovascular Disease

Panel Video

This panel will include a discussion of strategies for improving health equity for patients with cardiovascular disease. This panel will discuss the role of care providers in addressing barriers and approaches to promoting long-term positive behavioral change among uncontrolled hypertensive and hypercholesterolemic patients and how digital technology is aiding practitioners with building and strengthening relationships with their patients. It will include an exploration of sub-populations including post-surgery patients, pregnant women, and migrants.

Doctors With Heart

Health Innovation Pavilion 11:00-12:00 pm ET

Many under-resourced populations lack access to specialty care. Doctors With Heart connects American Heart Association volunteer cardiologists to clinicians in participating community health centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) at no cost. This panel will include Dr. Ann Marie Navar, a cardiologist from UT Southwestern who had the vision to create this program. Dr. Navar will be joined by Dr. John Osborne, a cardiologist and AHA volunteer, Lynette Navar, a registered nurse and early adopter of Doctors with Heart, and Cassie Walker who is the Program Director for Doctors with Heart. This panel discuss will focus on how the program was developed, the need for promoting access to healthcare, the role technology can provide in health equity. and share some early insights.
